Your newspaper most likely has some form of an online presence. For smaller publications, it might just be a Facebook page or an editorial-style blog.

If you work for a larger newspaper, you probably have a full-blown digital edition of your publication, a Facebook page, a Twitter and Instagram account where your editorial staff is constantly posting to.

If that's the case, you'll have a lot of products to sell including traditional paid digital display ads (banner ads), sponsorships, and native advertising (where your advertisers ad shows up in a Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram feed, for example).

Some of my clients have other products and services as well, including Groupon-type services where people can buy discount certificates, coupon sites that offer  downloadable discounts, and even have the ability to offer AdWords, Website design, and SEO services. We even have a course that helps sell against (or with) social media.

While we'll explain in our last chapter about selling digital advertising, it's really not that complicated to sell digital ads. Still, some newspapers find it helpful to have a  separate staff dedicated to selling them.

But for the majority of publications, ad reps are able to sell their advertisers both print and digital advertising in pretty much all forms.

As digital products continue to evolve, keep in mind your print and digital products are doing the same simple thing—helping your local businesses reach their target customers in a certain geographical area. The last chapter will show you how simple selling digital really is.
